The Brief
Koto had spent eight months crafting a complete brand identity for Meridian Health — a regional healthcare network looking to modernize their digital presence while maintaining the trust they’d built over four decades. The design system was extensive: 60+ page templates, a complex component library, and interaction patterns that needed to feel warm and approachable without sacrificing professionalism.
The Build
We architected a modular system in Next.js that could scale with Meridian’s growth plans. The CMS needed to serve both marketing teams and clinical staff updating location-specific content. Key features included:
- Location finder with real-time availability data
- Provider directory with advanced filtering
- Patient portal integration points
- HIPAA-compliant form handling
- Multi-site content management with inheritance
The interaction layer was critical — healthcare can feel cold, so we invested heavily in micro-interactions that added warmth: gentle page transitions, thoughtful loading states, and scroll-triggered animations that guide without overwhelming.
The Result
Launched on schedule with zero critical issues in the first month. The editorial team was managing content independently within a week of training. Meridian reported a 34% increase in online appointment bookings in the first quarter post-launch.
